Community Involvement

My work in the community goes hand in hand with my law practice. I believe that lawyers have an ethical obligation to use our talents and resources to give back to the communities in which we live and work through a combination of community and pro bono service.

I also feel blessed to be involved with so many non-profit organizations that are tackling important social and environmental issues. I volunteer my time as an active and engaged member of the wonderful non-profits listed below.

Professional Organizations

CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Network (industry trade association with over 12,000 members in 76 chapters in US, Canada, and UK)

I’ve been an active Member of CREW Network since 1997, and have served as a National Delegate, and on eight different national committees and task forces. One of the committees that I most enjoy is the Scholarship Selection Committee, which I chaired in 2013. This year will be my seventh year serving as one of my chapter’s representatives to select the incredibly talented female undergrad and graduate students who will be CREW Network Scholars.

CREW Network Foundation

I am a past Trustee of CREW Network Foundation and a past co-chair of the CREW Careers Committee and the Career Outreach Committee. In 2015, I was honored to be named as the 50th CREW Network Foundation Visionary.

CREW Charlotte

CREW Charlotte is one of the largest chapters in CREW Network. I am honored to be a past President and continue to be very active in the life of our local chapter. I was one of the founders of CREW Charlotte’s Authentic Leadership Program, and currently serve on the Strategic Planning Committee and the CREW Network Committee.

South Carolina Women Lawyers Association (SCWLA)

I recently retired from the Board of Directors, after serving for four years, and continue to serve as the Olde English Regional Representative.

Oberlin College Alumni Association

I am currently serving as President, Class of 1976 (2017-2022) and previously served as our Class Vice President.

University of Michigan Alumni Association

I am a Life Member of the U of M Alumni Association. GO BLUE!

United States Green Building Council North Carolina Chapter

I was Chair of the Charlotte Region Chapter in 2012, and was instrumental in helping move to a statewide chapter in 2013, where I served as a Board member until 2014. I chaired the incredibly successful Green Gala in 2015, and have been a Member and LEED® AP since 2009.

United States Green Building Council

I served as a member of the Chapter Steering Committee in the Development Seat from 2014-2016. I was a Greenbuild Education Session Reviewer for several years and attended Greenbuild five years in a row.
